Artist's Statement
The west and I have always been entwined. I grew up in La Jolla, California where art is an integral part of everyone's life and watercolor is the medium of choice. While living in Idaho, Montana and Colorado, I found myself irresistibly drawn to ranching, rodeo, wildlife and western landscape themes. I enjoy the solitude and peace that one finds out on a ranch or in the wilderness and try to bring some of that feeling back into my studio with me. I am attracted to both subtle and bold relationships. I revel in capturing the quiet moment that tries to slip by unnoticed. I might be on my belly in the dust photographing the duct-taped boots of a travel weary rodeo cowboy or perched above the chutes with my camera, shooting the intensity of the 2 and 4 legged competitors a split second before the gate swings open. On a ranch I'll be in a forgotten outbuilding painting an old pair of chinks found hanging on a wall, aiming my camera at one of the hands as he rides in dripping wet from a storm or out on the prairie capturing the last light of the day as it halos grazing horses.

As an artist, one of my pleasures is to be able to share what I see - with seniors at an elder hostel when I give lectures and demonstrations; with young aspiring artists when I take them out in the field for a day of sketching; with folks that perhaps may never be able to go to the places that I have been fortunate enough to visit. Painting to me is like breathing; sometimes easy, sometimes labored, but always an inseparable part of living.

I live with my husband, Reber, on a small ranch in the South Park area of Colorado, at an altitude of 9,500 feet. We have 3 horses named Bosco, Brawny and Dozer, and an Australian shepard/border collie/blue healer mix named Brewski. Weather permitting, we can usually be found somewhere in the Lost Creek Wilderness Area exploring new trails.
